I think it is important to have a health newspaper at Chestnutwold because it can influence kids to stay healthy. I realize that the Healthy Times has helped me be healthier because I now am more knowledgeable about health. I ride my bike a lot more and I run more than I used to. I have learned how important it is to take care of my teeth and my bones, and to stay at a healthy weight. When my story appeared in this year’s first newspaper, it was definitely my proudest moment. When you put so much into writing something and then you get to see it in the paper, it’s like sparks fly. It’s just magical when kids read the paper and like it. I know they are learning from it. —By Amber Mattoon, fourth grade, Chestnutwold Elementary School My proudest moment as a Healthy Times newspaper reporter is going out to report. I learn new things about teachers. When I go back into room 11, I show Ms. Marian my work. Sometimes she will edit my work so I can make it better. I know Ms. Jelesiewicz, Ms. Pugliese, and Ms. Marian are counting on me to come in and do my work. I’m glad they appreciate my work because I work hard! —By Brooklynn Pendleton, third grade, Hancock Elementary School Belonging to the Whitehall Healthy Reporter is a serious job. But I can have fun with my friends and be serious at the same time. When it is time to work, I put on my responsible and business face. I leave all joking aside. A lot of times, people ask me how I became a news reporter. My answer is that my third grade teacher chose me. I was shocked at first because I was a brand-new student at Whitehall. I am usually the shy person who doesn’t get picked a lot for special opportunities. I think I am less shy now. I learned as a reporter that I can be a shy person and still get my voice heard. —By Gianni Young, third grade, Whitehall Elementary School Illustration by Gabriella Garcia, Whitehall Healthy Reporter
