Marcus Allen is chief executive officer of Big Brothers Big Sisters Southeastern Pennsylva- nia. He previously was CEO of ACHIEVEability, a Philadelphia nonprofit focused on a range of social service, housing, and community development initiatives. He also has been chief operating officer for VisionQuest, a for-profit national youth services agency. Earlier, he served in the National Guard for five years and played professional basketball in the United States, Europe, and Latin America. Joan Myers Brown is founder of The Philadelphia Dance Company (PHILADANCO!) and The Philadelphia School of Dance Arts. She also established the International Association of Blacks in Dance and the International Conference of Black Dance Companies and has been widely recognized for her contributions to the arts and the community. Her life and career are the subject of Joan Myers Brown & the Audacious Hope of the Black Ballerina: A Biohistory of American Performance by Brenda Dixon Gottschild. Tyra Bryant-Stephens, M.D., is a pediatrician who founded the Community Asthma Prevention Program (CAPP) of Philadelphia at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in 1997. As medical director of the program, she leads a staff of 12, including registered nurse educators and clinical coordinators as well as lay home visitors. Through government and foundation grants, CAPP has expanded its home visits and free asthma education throughout Philadelphia. Dr. Bryant-Stephens earned her medical degree at the Bowman Gray School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, N.C. Mariana Chilton, Ph.D., is a nationally recognized leader on combating child hunger in America. She is an associate professor at Drexel University School of Public Health, co-principal investigator of Children’s HealthWatch, and director of Drexel’s Center for Hunger-Free Communities. Dr. Chilton received her Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania, Master of Public Health from the University of Oklahoma, and B.A. from Harvard University. She has testified before committees of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives on the importance of child nutrition and antipoverty policies. About our leaders
