Volunteering with St. Paul’s also has taken him to the Standing Rock Indian Reservation in North Dakota, where he worked at a camp for children. Mr. Al Jumaili keeps himself healthy by playing sports. In fact, he says, he really enjoys all the sporting activities available in this country. He has been on the wrestling and tennis teams at Abington High and even has participated in the Abington 24-Hour Relay Challenge, using a prosthesis for his right leg. Overcoming the obstacles that Mr. Al Jumaili has faced—physical, emotional, and geographical—has given him the confidence to say that everyone can a play a supportive role in their community. “Try your best,” he says. “Don’t think you can’t do something. Put your mind to it and you can do everything.” —By Sharon Figueroa KIPP Philadelphia Charter School Fit Advocate Illustration by Rebekah Wilford, East Norriton Bulldog Bulletin
