Being fit is also important to Dr. Garces and her family. With their two children, she and her husband like to hike. Her husband also skateboards and swims. Dr. Garces gets up every morning at 5:30 and either runs or participates in a “boot camp” class where she exercises vigorously. Dr. Garces says she avoids soft drinks and processed foods. She likes to eat salads and vegetables. “There’s nothing like a good, fresh, home-cooked meal,” she says. When asked her advice for children, she shares the lesson she received from her parents, both physicians: Make healthy choices. —By Andrea Avila, Jysir Fisher, Claribel Perez, and Scarlet Carbucia La Salle Academy Healthy News Illustration by Claribel Perez, La Salle Academy Healthy News
