Dr. Chilton says hunger is a “fixable” problem. Political leaders can make sure government programs such as food stamps are available to all the people who need them. People also need better-paying jobs, she says. “We want our leaders to pay attention so they can make policies that can affect millions of people all at once,” says Dr. Chilton. She says children can make a difference by being kind to others and cheering up those in need. When they do, they will feel better too. She speaks from her own experience. “Helping others helps me feel healthy,” she says. “It cheers me up and makes me feel good.” —By Lawrence McKenny and Alan-Michael Smith Philadelphia Montessori Charter School Healthy Times Illustrations by Amaya Bankowski, Eisenhower Healthy Panther
