People.” When they drive it into a neighborhood, it serves as a meeting place where people can talk and deal with problems before they escalate. While Philadelphia CeaseFire spends a lot of time in the neighborhoods trying to reduce violence, its staff members also go into schools and talk to young children. “Even young people can be messengers and talk to friends and family members about poor choices,” Ms. Davis Bellamy says. She says some people are hard to convince that they should become peaceful. They are not yet receptive to change. But she stays positive. She doesn’t take meanness or spitefulness to heart. “I don’t take it personally,” she says. Ms. Davis Bellamy deals with the stresses by leading a healthy lifestyle. She doesn’t drink alcohol. She goes for regular checkups at her doctor’s office. She eats a healthy diet, avoiding red meat. She doesn’t worry a lot.
