Healthy NewsWorks provides students with the opportunity to learn how to be good listeners, how to interview people and research topics, and how to write and edit—skills that help build a firm foundation for their education. These tools will serve young people well throughout their life in any field they choose to pursue. The program also encourages curiosity—to always ask lots of questions. This year, students learned about very relevant and crucial issues such as what families can do to prevent heart disease and how to prevent bullying and how to deal with it when it occurs. Perspective A message from our Community Healthcare Champion One of the ways Einstein Healthcare Network supports Healthy NewsWorks and its student journalists is by sharing our greatest resource—our experienced and expert staff. Whether it’s scheduling a field trip to our Emergency Department for students to learn how it works, having a nursing director visit a school and discuss how to handle bullying, or having chaplains offer their perspective on issues of daily living, our aim is to expose students to real-life professionals who will serve as positive role models.
