Mr. Bandura also tries to keep his players in a positive frame of mind. That was particularly important during the buildup to the World Series. The team received a lot of media attention, with star pitcher Mo’ne Davis even landing on the cover of Sports Illustrated magazine. “It hit them all at once,” Mr. Bandura says. Still, he says his players didn’t seem affected by the pressure during games. “Once the game starts, they’re just kids,” he says. Even though they didn’t win the World Series title, Mr. Bandura says the Taney Dragons ac- complished a lot. He says children can have big dreams, but it’s important to set small goals along the way. “You have so much potential. You might not know it, but it’s there,” he says. “I didn’t know I would enjoy coaching until I did it.” Coaching taught him an important lesson, too. “Personal achievements are great, but it’s knowing you help other people that makes you feel good about yourself,” Mr. Bandura says. — By Hannah Bickert, Paola Cañals, Kahlil Cuffee, and Brooklyn Grant La Salle Academy Healthy News 9 Illustration by Jacey Captis, Marshall Street Healthy Bulletin
