Liz Scott serves as the co-executive director of the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation along with her husband, Jay. Their daughter, Alex, opened lemonade stands annually to raise money to help doctors find new treatments for cancer patients like her. After Alex’s death, her parents and three brothers carried on her legacy and the fight against the disease. Mrs. Scott is most proud of her title “Mom” to her four children. Tanya Thampi-Sen serves as community nutrition program manager at the Greater Philadelphia Coalition Against Hunger. In her job, she has been instrumental in instituting numerous Coalition programs, including the Walk+Run Against Hunger and the monthly Victory in Partnership workshops for community food providers. A registered dietitian with a master’s degree in public health, Ms. Thampi-Sen has worked for more than 15 years in the fields of health, hunger, and nutrition, including a dozen years with the Coalition. Stanford Thompson, an internationally acclaimed trumpeter, conductor, and educator, uses performance as a platform for social innovation. A graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, he has served since 2011 as executive director for Play On Philly!, which seeks to create change through musical training for young people living in challenging economic and social conditions. His achievements have brought recognition as one of Philadelphia’s top 76 Creative Connectors. Dr. Flaura Koplin Winston is a board-certified pediatrician, biomechanical engineer, and public health researcher. A professor of pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania, she is the scientific director of the Center for Injury Research and Prevention at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Her research has focused on traffic injury, including identifying the first cases of child deaths from air bags and helping establish appropriate restraints for children in motor vehicles.
