Patricia DeRusso, M.D., serves as associate professor of clinical pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and as vice president of medical staff affairs and director of the Healthy Weight Program at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Previously, she served as chief medical officer at Pfizer Nutrition. She has also worked at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals as the medical director of clinical research in nutrition and as a faculty member at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Jim Ellis is the senior aquatics director at the Salvation Army Kroc Center in Philadelphia. Previously he founded and built the nationally recognized PDR (Philadelphia Department of Recreation) swim team based at the Marcus Foster Recreation Center. As one of the nation’s best predominantly African-American swim teams, his program has become a model for urban teams. His story was the subject of the 2007 feature film, Pride. His swimmers have competed in Olympic trials and international meets. Arthur Evans, Ph.D., is the commissioner of Philadelphia’s Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbility Services (DBHIDS). Dr. Evans received his doctorate from the University of Maryland in clinical/community psychology. He holds a faculty appointment at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Before coming to Philadelphia, Dr. Evans was the Deputy Commissioner for the Connecticut Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services (DMHAS). In 2013 he received the American Medical Association’s top government service award in health care, the Dr. Nathan Davis Award for Outstanding Government Service, for his leadership in transforming the Philadelphia behavioral health system.
