Just as Einstein Healthcare Network is committed to training the next generation of doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals, we are very pleased to play a role in helping to train the next generation of journal- ists and healthcare ambassadors. Supporting the work of Healthy NewsWorks aligns with the mission of Einstein Healthcare Network—to help keep communities healthy and strong and to empower people to manage their health. Our missions are compatible, since Healthy NewsWorks offers young students the tools to adopt healthy habits, which they share throughout their school communities as well as with family members, neighbors, and the larger community. As a Community Healthcare Champion this year, we take great pleasure that we can help enable young students to meet healthcare professionals in the community who work in a variety of capacities and settings. They not Perspective A message from our Community Healthcare Champion 3 only will learn firsthand about those professionals’ careers and day-to-day responsibilities, but they also will share what they have learned with other people through their newspapers, books, and web articles. Our hope is that this exposure will make a positive impact on these young journalists and their readers, and start some of them on the path to becoming healthcare professionals and making a difference. Healthy NewsWorks can jump-start a student’s academic career by teaching valuable skills, such as how to research healthcare topics, interview people, and write effectively on a range of health and social issues. These tools will serve students during their school years and well beyond. Healthy NewsWorks encourages children to be curious, to ask questions, and to be explorers. These are gifts that can be applied in every field of endeavor and will last a lifetime. —By Steven L. Sivak, M.D., FACP Dr. Sivak is The Paul J.
