Cole Manor reporters this year explored how reading can play an important role in young people’s emotional and social development. They interviewed Mrs. Karen Mitchell, “Reading builds connections and keeps you healthy,” at the Norristown Public Library who emphasized that reading helps children and teens build empathy by exposing them to different perspectives, experiences, and ways of life.
Their article, which appears in the Spring 2026 issue of By Kids, For Kids Magazine underscores that reading can foster a sense of connection and belonging, particularly when readers engage with stories that reflect different communities and people’s lived experiences. These shared experiences can encourage reflection, curiosity, and understanding that extend beyond the page.
As Mrs. Mitchell noted, reading is not only about academic growth, but also about building meaningful connections that support healthy development.
