See what educators say about Healthy NewsWorks curriculum

July 2021 … Healthy NewsWorks empowers elementary and middle school students to become researchers, writers, critical thinkers, and confident communicators who advance health understanding and literacy through their factual publications and digital media.

The educators whose students participate in our program raved about the Healthy NewsWorks curriculum in a new video.

“The content was so relevant. … A lot of times, it was information that the kids really didn’t know much about but were interested in learning,” said Tami Peterson, librarian at Whitehall Middle School.

Our student journalists also get unique opportunities to interview scientists, doctors, health leaders, and community activists at the pinnacle of their professions.

“In a time where students were isolated and alone, with the help of Healthy NewsWorks, I was able to offer them interesting and unique opportunities,” said Victoria Strickland, a teacher at East Norriton Middle School.

The skills our participants gain extend far beyond the classroom.

“Our students who involve themselves with Healthy NewsWorks, they’re learning to ask critical questions, they’re learning to think about things from different lenses. They’re learning to look at different viewpoints and analyze where everyone is coming from,” said Jodan Floyd, principal of AMY Northwest.
