Healthy NewsWorks reporters have wrapped up their articles, reflections, illustrations, and even poetry for the Spring 2026 magazine: By Kids, For Kids magazine.
It has involved weeks of work for the reporters, from researching the topics and interviewing community leaders to gathering expert information and collaborating with their teachers and Healthy NewsWorks editors. The result is a student-produced magazine that shares accurate health information and meaningful community stories with readers across the region.
The magazine articles typically appear first in their school newspapers and, in the coming months, will also be posted on Healthy NewsWorks’ By Kids, For Kids web platform. Several will be used as the foundation for videos.
The edition focuses on this year’s Healthy NewsWorks reporting theme, Making Healthy Connections. One article from student reporters at William Cramp Elementary School highlights the work of Raymond Alvarez and La Liga del Barrio, a community youth sports program in North Philadelphia. The story explores how the league teaches young athletes more than just sports skills.
“La Liga brings families together and other players in the league.” Alvarez told student reporters. “It’s a healthy environment for them and for us.”
Through programs like basketball, flag football, and track and field, La Liga gives young people opportunities to stay active while building teamwork and friendships. Coaches emphasize growth and development, helping children learn important life lessons about sportsmanship, perseverance, and making connections with other people.
You can read the La Liga article in the William Cramp Fit Flyer winter 2026 issue. The article will also appear in the Spring magazine edition which will be available in late April. To explore past student reporting, check out previous By Kids, For Kids magazines and recent school newspapers.
