Final stretch for Building a Healthy Future Campaign
May 29, 2026

Healthy NewsWorks is nearing the finish line of our three-year, $1 million Building a Healthy Future Campaign. As of late May, we have received more than $900,000 in contributions and pledges from individuals.

Your gift will be matched to help us reach our goal

Now through June 30, every individual donation and new pledge—up to $50,000 total—will be matched by members of the Healthy NewsWorks Board of Directors.

That means every gift or pledge from individuals before June 30 will go twice as far.

We are inspired by and deeply grateful for the generous support from hundreds of donors during this campaign. Please help us close it out!

Our story

Healthy NewsWorks works in under-resourced elementary and middle schools in the Philadelphia region, including southern New Jersey. In partnership with classroom teachers, we deliver programs that engage children ages 5 to 14 in health-focused journalism and are aligned with both the national Common Core English Language Arts and National Health Education Standards.

Our unique curriculum integrates reading, writing, health, math, science, media literacy, and civics—plus hands-on experiential learning.

The student reporters interview local and national experts in science, medicine, and related fields; learn to distinguish fact from fiction and opinion; strengthen their writing; and build self-confidence. They work in teams to deliver relevant, accurate health information through newspapers, magazines, videos, and digital media for their school communities.

In one seventh grader’s words:

“I learned many things about what it’s like as a reporter. I had to interview people, gather information, write it down, and fix any mistakes. I also found out that some parts of being a writer are very demanding. I did a lot of work with a team writing and proofreading our articles.”

Our campaign

There are many match-eligible ways to help us wrap up the campaign:

  • Mail a check to Healthy NewsWorks, P.O. Box 431, Drexel Hill, PA 19026.
  • Request a grant to Healthy NewsWorks (Tax ID: 81-4668072) through a donor-advised fund.
  • If you are 70½ or older with an individual retirement account, you can make a qualified charitable contribution directly to Healthy NewsWorks (up to $100,000 maximum per year) without federal income tax on the money withdrawn to fund the gift.

We also encourage you to introduce us to friends who might become Healthy NewsWorks supporters.

Please contact Healthy NewsWorks Executive Director Marian Uhlman with any questions.
