We interviewed Dr. Vivek Murthy, former surgeon general, about loneliness and how to combat it by making healthy connections. He talked about how loneliness had similar mental and physical symptoms that you would see in smoking! Loneliness is very bad, and it’s sometimes hard to combat. But there are ways you can help.
I want more people to go out of their comfort zone to meet new people and help them battle loneliness. Because you never know if somebody is battling loneliness, and you can help.
I could have never imagined two months ago that I would ever interview somebody like Dr. Murthy, but thanks to Healthy NewsWorks, I did. First the venue (Philadelphia law offices of Troutman Pepper Locke) was amazing, and I was so nervous, but Dr. Murthy had a soft, kind aura that put my nerves to rest. And after the interview, Dr. Murthy cleared the cameras and took 30 minutes to connect and ask us questions. This shows that he is not just preaching connection but practicing it. And in conclusion, I think every young person should try to make a difference in not just one person’s life, but in many.
