Lessons on gratitude from Bogota, Colombia
June 19, 2025

A group of students in Bogota, Colombia, have a special partnership with Healthy NewsWorks. This year, they reported on the importance of gratitude in their community at Colegio Nuevo Granada (CNG), an international school in the heart of the capital.

Students interviewed their teachers about the importance of gratitude and reflected on the role of gratitude in their own lives. Two students, Alicia Polo and Alicia Canela Rueda, also wrote their own articles, which got their own features on the Correspondents Page on the By Kids, For Kids website. Their articles focused on different ways of showing gratitude to people in your lives.

“Gratitude is a way to show how much you appreciate something that someone does for you,” said Alicia Polo. “Gratitude is not only a feeling; it is something you need to practice. It is a way to explain how you feel. We should show gratitude every day.”

This is the second year that Healthy NewsWorks has partnered with CNG. Last year, students wrote about being active through sports and physical activity and pet health.

Ben Coleman, who is originally from Philadelphia, is a teacher at CNG and partnered with Healthy NewsWorks to bring lessons to his students, who come from all over the world.

You can read this year’s dispatches from Bogota on the International Correspondents page.
