Healthy NewsWorks student reporters at St. Joseph Pro-Cathedral in Camden, New Jersey, connected with student reporters at Kopila Valley School in Nepal through storytelling, cultural exchange, and journalism. The students set out to learn about each other’s communities by sharing questions, videos, and information about their daily lives, including their schools, interests, and traditions.
Despite challenges—including weather disruptions, air pollution, and a nearly 12-hour time difference—students persevered and built a meaningful connection with peers in Nepal. Through this international exchange, students discovered how food and storytelling can bring people together, strengthen understanding, and help young people learn from one another across the globe.

Kopila Valley School is located in Surkhet, Nepal, where students learn, grow, and share their community with the world. Through this international exchange, Healthy NewsWorks student reporters explored Nepalese culture by exchanging stories with their peers and sampling traditional foods, including momos, roti, and lassi. Along the way, they discovered the many experiences they have in common despite living on opposite sides of the globe.
