What anxiety looks and feels like

By Jade, Angel, and Lorena, East Norriton Bulldog Bulletin | Experiencing occasional anxiety is a normal part of life, says the Mayo Clinic website, which medical experts produce.

“However, people with anxiety disorders fre-quently have intense, excessive, and persistent worry and fear about everyday situations,” the website says.

Ms. Raimondi, the seventh- and eighth-grade school counselor, said she sometimes deals with students suffering from anxiety. “Anxiety is diagnosed through medical professionals like doctors, psychiatrists, and other medical professionals,” she said.

What does anxiety feel like? According to the Mayo Clinic, there are many different types of symptoms, such as feeling “nervous, restless, or tense… having a sense of impending danger, panic, or doom. … having difficulty controlling worry.”

School Nurse Mrs. Zangara said anxiety can even affect your schoolwork. “You may also have a hard time concentrating,” she said. She said anxiety can be caused by what’s going on around you. You can be overwhelmed, which can lead to anxiety, she said.

There are ways to cope with anxiety. For starters, Mrs. Zangara said, “take a few deep breaths, walk away from the situation, and count to ten before you react to something.”

If you feel like you are dealing with anxiety, reach out to a trusted adult for help.
