Students reflect on their reporting experiences
February 16, 2026

By Karter, James Lowell Elementary School Healthy Lion | Making connections to me means that I can meet people and not make them feel left out. I have a friend whom I met in school. To stay connected, I share food with him and play outside with him. Advice I would give to others is to make friends is to not bully or make fun of others. Be kind.

Healthy NewsWorks student reporters are sharing personal reflections on health, kindness, and connection through the organization’s Kids Blog, an online collection of student-written stories from partner schools across the region.

Jason, 6th grade, Holy Name, 2024-25.

The blog features short pieces written by students building on what they have learned through their reporting experiences. Topics include building friendships, helping others, finding humor in everyday moments, and recognizing people who support them at home and at school. Together, the stories offer a student perspective on what it means to stay healthy, feel supported, and build strong connections.

For many reporters, it is their first time seeing their writing shared beyond the classroom. The experience helps students practice communication skills and reflect on how health and well-being connect to their lives and communities.

By Jaden, Octavius V. Catto Family School Healthy News | When I play football, I have so much fun. I love catching the ball. Playing on a team is good for you because it is not only fun, but it is also good exercise.

By Amelia, CPS (St. Cecilia) Healthy Courier | Volunteering helps you when you are feeling down and it makes people in the community happy. Volunteering can also help you find something that you really enjoy doing and make a difference while teaching you to be responsible.

The Kids Blog is updated regularly with new entries from student reporters participating in Healthy NewsWorks programs.
