What your donation means to students
November 6, 2025

Helping children learn how to find and appropriately use health information is at the heart of the Healthy NewsWorks mission. To make this work possible, we rely on supporters who recognize that these skills are essential for children to navigate our complex world and become engaged, thoughtful citizens.

Our fall fundraising appeal is underway from now through Dec. 31, 2025. All proceeds will benefit our Building a Healthy Future campaign, a three-year effort to raise $1 million to help us reach more students.

Through Healthy NewsWorks, student reporters learn to identify reliable information and apply reporting skills to share their findings with thousands of readers through their writing. During the 2025–26 school year, we will deliver our programs to more than 2,200 students in the Philadelphia region.

What students say

Two of our student reporters, whose work has appeared in their school newspapers, By Kids, For Kids magazine, and videos, share their experiences with Healthy NewsWorks.

“Healthy NewsWorks offered me so many opportunities, including reporting, writing, interviewing professionals, drawing, facilitating conversations, creating videos, and making a song.”

—Xzavier Valdez-Sharp (left), seventh grader, Holy Name Catholic School

“I became more confident talking to people and speaking on camera. I also developed better writing skills from all the articles I wrote for the newspaper and the films we did.”

—Aria Bucci (right), fifth grader, East Norriton Middle School

Our campaign

To support our reporters, we launched our Building a Healthy Future Campaign two years ago to raise $1 million from individual supporters. We are now in the campaign’s final year and have so far received more than $735,000 in cash and pledges.
