Updated book of healthy snack recipes
September 22, 2025

If you are looking for a family-friendly healthy snack that won’t eat a big hole in your food budget, check out “Healthy Snacks, Drinks and Quick Bites: A Recipe Book for Kids.”

The updated publication, which was first released in 2019, is a joint project of Healthy NewsWorks and the Health & Well-being Clinic at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Fifteen recipes are featured in the collection, including Banana Oatmeal Cups, Pumpkin Yogurt Dip, and Creamy Fruity Smoothie. The publication focuses on creating healthy, balanced snacks from the 5 food groups, and “all recipes are a good source of fiber or protein—and many recipes contain a great balance of both,” according to the booklet.

The recipe book is now available on the Healthy NewsWorks website and print copies will be distributed to students participating in its Cub Reporter program this year. As part of the program, Cub Reporters (ages 5 to 8) learn about heart health. The publications will also  be shared at Healthy NewsWorks’ Snack Smart! Family Workshops in schools and community venues.

“We are so grateful to CHOP for partnering with us on this recipe collection,” said Marian Uhlman, Healthy NewsWorks executive director, “and we look forward to sharing it with our students and their families.”

Healthy NewsWorks also recognizes The Edna G. Kynett Memorial Foundation, which has provided significant support for the development of our Cub Reporter program.
