Quandre Davis, a reporter for the Chester Charter Scholars Academy Healthy Highlights, wrote a poem that was featured in the Fall 2025 edition of By Kids, For Kids. The poem, titled “Pressure,” discusses feeling overwhelmed by responsibilities and the expectations of others, and the difficult emotions that come with that.
Quandre wrote the poem as a companion to the article written by Healthy Highlights staff about their interview with Kevin Carter, a clinical social worker and mental health advocate who spoke with reporters about coping in healthy ways.
Mr. Carter advised students to slow down and check in with themselves, which is reflected in the ending of Quandre’s poem: “The weight will ease, the clouds will part, and peace will settle in my heart.”
The Healthy Highlights staff also produced a short film about their experience speaking with Mr. Carter, which features Quandre reading his poem.
