The latest edition of By Kids, For Kids is officially in print!
This edition focuses on Making Good Decisions and includes articles written by Healthy NewsWorks reporters from our core reporter classrooms over the course of the 2024-25 school year.
The magazine features stories about the science of decision-making from an interview with Dr. Joseph Kable, a professor of psychology at the University of Pennsylvania; making good decisions about social media from an interview with Dr. Jen Caudle, a professor and family physician; and the benefits of positive friendships from an interview with therapist and former NFL player Tim Massaquoi.
Reporters from Russell Byers School learned about mindfulness from Dr. Daniel Taylor, a pediatrician at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children and associate professor of pediatrics at Drexel University College of Medicine. Dean Millard, a former Healthy NewsWorks reporter and current student body president at Villanova University, visited Cole Manor Elementary School, his alma mater, and talked to student reporters about decisions that helped him succeed as a student.
Aside from these special interviews, the magazine also features student reflections on good decision making, games like word scrambles and scavenger hunts, and lots of student artwork.
The Spring 2025 edition of By Kids, For Kids is being distributed in Healthy NewsWorks partner schools across the Philadelphia area and South Jersey. We will also be distributing copies at the Healthy Conversations event on Tuesday, April 29, which will include conversations facilitated by some of the reporters whose work is featured in the magazine.
Community groups interested in receiving copies can contact editor@healthynewsworks.org. The digital version of the magazine is online here.
