The first newspapers of the 2024-25 school year have been published with more on the way. Healthy NewsWorks reporters have been busy completing interviews, surveys, and research. They are reporting on the benefits of sleep. exercise, and good decision-making for their first issues.
One recent newspaper, the Fit Fish, is the first for Alexander Adaire Elementary School in The School District of Philadelphia. Mia Blitstein, Healthy NewsWorks program manager, is working with the fourth-grade students on the Fit Fish staff.
“These reporters are very motivated and invested in kicking off their school’s first health newspaper. They have tons of ideas and love to be involved in the project,” Mia said.
“I like that we get to help design the paper and get to learn about things that are happening in our school,” said Clio, an Adaire Fit Fish reporter.
Other new Healthy NewsWorks partner schools this fall are Isaac A. Sheppard and Julia de Burgos Elementary Schools in Philadelphia and Chester Charter Scholars Academy in the city of Chester. In Camden, New Jersey, the Catholic Partnership Schools Healthy Courier now has reporting teams at Holy Name and St. Cecilia Schools, as well as St. Joseph Pro-Cathedral, which joined our program four years ago.
