Student reporters explore caring for mind and body in 2026-27
September 21, 2026

Healthy NewsWorks student reporters will explore the everyday habits, relationships, and experiences that support mental and physical well-being through the 2026–27 reporting theme, How We Heal: Caring for Our Minds and Our Bodies.

Throughout the year, students will research and report on topics including belonging, coping strategies, kindness, sleep, screen use, time in nature, and other factors that can help individuals and communities thrive. Students will interview experts and community members and share what they learn through stories, videos, and other reporting throughout the school year.

The theme builds on Healthy NewsWorks’ 2021-22 project, How We Heal: Moving Ahead in Challenging Times, which focused on issues related to the Covid-19 pandemic. Since then, Healthy NewsWorks has continued to emphasize social and emotional topics in its curriculum as a response to feedback from educators and students.

New stories, videos, and resources will be added to the How We Heal page as they are published.

Recommend someone for our student reporters to interview

We are seeking suggestions for people our student reporters can interview as they explore this year’s theme. We welcome recommendations for health professionals, researchers, educators, community leaders, and others who can share their knowledge and experiences about the factors that support mental and physical well-being.

Recommend a potential interview guest by emailing editor@healthynewsworks.org.
