Healthy NewsWorks is expanding its Family Engagement Workshops for the 2026-27 school year with four new interactive programs designed to help families build healthy habits, strengthen communication, and navigate today’s digital world together.
Family Engagement Workshops bring children and their caregivers together through interactive, hands-on learning experiences that promote health, strengthen family connections, and support student success. Each workshop features a guest expert who answers participants’ questions.
The new offerings include:
Snack Smart Pop-Up is a 30-minute workshop where children and caregivers prepare simple, nutritious snacks together. Designed for busy schedules, the sessions fit easily into school arrival or dismissal times, family nights, health fairs, and other existing events. Families leave with healthy snack ideas, practical nutrition tips, and an easy recipe to recreate at home.
Healthy Bites: Snack Detectives puts families’ snack knowledge to the test. Children and caregivers investigate food labels, uncover surprising facts about sugar and salt, and compare popular snacks with healthier alternatives. Through games, demonstrations, taste-testing, and hands-on activities, families learn how to make nutritious choices that fit their tastes, traditions, and budgets. Each family leaves with helpful resources and a take-home snack kit to continue the investigation at home.
Calm Mornings + Connected Families = Great School Days helps families create routines that support school attendance, punctuality, and overall well-being. Through interactive activities, participants explore how sleep, screen time, preparation, and communication affect the start of each day. Guest experts share practical advice, and every family receives a Family Success Toolkit with resources to help establish routines that work for their household.
Raising Smart Digital Citizens focuses on media literacy and responsible technology use. Children and caregivers investigate how algorithms, artificial intelligence, social media, and online content influence the information people consume. Families practice identifying trustworthy sources, discuss strategies for evaluating information before sharing it, and hear from journalists or digital media professionals. Participants leave with a Digital Detective Toolkit to continue building critical thinking skills at home.
