Healthy NewsWorks student reporters recently asked Dr. Vivek Murthy, the 19th and 21st U.S. Surgeon General, about loneliness, social connection, and the importance of building strong relationships.

During a sit-down interview, the reporters learned what led Dr. Murthy to focus on loneliness as a public health issue and how individuals and communities can help people feel more connected.
The conversation also gave our reporters plenty to think about. In their own reflections, students wrote about the power of small actions—from smiling at someone to reaching out to a person who may be feeling alone.
