33 Catching up with past leaders Kaseir Archie 2015 Health Leader As a Philadelphia high school student, Kaseir Archie served on the Youth Advisory Board of the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, a national organization helping children develop lifelong healthy habits. He also played ice hockey for the Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation. Kaseir Archie is still teaching kids about health. On weekends, he says, he often spends time helping the hockey team he played for during high school. He talks to the players about eating nutritious food and keeping themselves fit. He continues to spread the message that being healthy is a “great thing. It allows you to be ready for class, for the playground, and for life,” he says. He tells young people, “This is one of the best times to begin or to start being healthy. So you all can be the best that you can.” Mr. Archie is a student at Drexel University. He is majoring in international business and accounting. He says he wants to travel all over the world and one day operate his own business. College is what he expected, he says. He can study what he is most interested in. He says he likes that flexibility. “Since I prepared in high school, it was not too hard,” he says. Mr. Archie joined the Drexel University ice hockey team in his first year of college. But in his second year, he decided he wanted to focus on his schoolwork and campus involvement. He says he still enjoys the game as a hobby. He coaches ice hockey and plays whenever he has time. —By Healthy Herald staff Community Partnership School Since 2012, Healthy NewsWorks student journalists have interviewed more than 70 health leaders for the Leading Healthy Change In Our Communities book series.
