We hope we stimulated these young reporters to consider science careers in their future, because they are our future. One student said she did not know phlebotomy was so exciting! Quest Diagnostics was excited to hear that Healthy NewsWorks received the 2016 Organizational Public Health Recognition Award from the College of Physicians of Philadelphia’s Section on Public Health and Preventive Medicine. This award rec- ognizes an organization that has made substantial contributions to the health of the community. We are honored to be a part of the partnership with Healthy NewsWorks. — By Mary K. Aranowski Ms. Aranowski is hematology supervisor at the Quest Diagnostics Laboratory in Horsham and a member of the QuestCares committee. Quest Diagnostics is Healthy NewsWorks’ Community Wellness Partner. Through Quest- Cares—Quest Diagnostics’ employee volunteer program—we have been able to reach out to the youth in our communities to form a meaningful relationship between our laboratory and local elementary and middle school students. With our company’s support, we have partnered locally with Healthy NewsWorks in furthering its mission to “empower student journalists to transform the health of their communities.” We hosted two school reporting groups in 2016, from St. Veronica School and East Norriton Mid- dle School, in our laboratory located in Horsham. We designed a simulated laboratory environment that included microscopes, microbiology culture plates, cells, softened noodles to mimic veins, lab coats, gloves, and even our logistics vehicles.
